How are online games created?

games like bejewled, tetris and other puzzle games on the internet, how are the graphics done, are sketches drawn and then these sketches are put on computer?How are online games created?
I guess people make the graphics, then write code to make the graphics move with keyboard %26amp; mouse movement, I am thankful for who ever writes these games, they are alot of fun! can't get off Tetris at the moment :)

well first of all yes you are right sketches will be done such as an initial game layout and animation effects and then plans will be made about the scoring system, the buttons used etc



that's just the planning. next depending on what type of game your making depends on what language you code it in. for example most games that are on websites will be made in adobe flash with some actionscript usage and maybe some PHP or java



so with that software you then proceed to make your game. You would make the images you sketched in programs such as photoshop, import the images into adobe flash to be used in your game and then the coding will begin. this is where all the commands of your game are dictated such as what button controls what etc



after you have this your game is pretty much done. some PHP will be needed to take the your score and name from the game and put it in a highscore table in some kind of database such as MySQL.

once you have all this done depending on what kinda of testing you have already done on it you will have an alpha or beta release where you extensively test your game out to hunt down any bugs or errors



once that's done its finished and is ready for general release
