I think you need to try out runescape. It is a game where you can raise skills and become better than everyone else. This is a huge multiplayer game! i think millions people play this game. Best part of all, it is free and they just updated it with some really sweet 3D graphics (that will be coming out for free players pretty soon). You don't need to download anything (besides java script if you don't have that, so no viruses :D), it is free, you can interact with friends, do quests, duel, and have lots of fun. (If you are really into the game you can pay some extra money each month to become a member and go on more quests, use more skills, and be able to do more.)



I also know of a online game called maple story that is quite popular. I never played it because it is a Korean game (u can play it in english) and runescape satisfies me.



If you have internet and are wanting to go all out, try buying world of warcraft or guild wars. I own guild wars and it is awesome for multiplayers, but world of warcraft is probably more addicting and better :S. But with WOW you pay like $15 a month, while with guild wars you just pay for the game and you are all set.
